Damion's success at day care nurseryDamion Baker is currently studying his Level 2 qualification in Preparation for Childcare and Preparation of Employment. At College he is one of only three male learners in a group of 12, in a sector which is mostly chosen by female learners. The 17 year old, from Shoeburyness, was offered a training allowance to work in a full day care nursery whilst completing his Level 2 Apprenticeship. The workplace, at Elim Day Nursery, has been really impressed with Damion's interaction with the children and he is on course to complete his qualification in March this year. Hazel Copping, Manager of Elim Day Nursery, said: "Damion started off very shy when he first joined us but he is doing extremely well and we are very pleased to have him working with us. He works really well with the children and we appreciate the liaison between Eden Training and ourselves to ensure he gets the learning opportunities and support he needs to complete his course successfully." Damion attends Eden Training College once a week for underpinning knowledge which has helped build his confidence both in communication and in his own ability, and is planning to progress to Level 3. He had a lot of personal challenges in his background, which included difficulties at school and has done extremely well, with the individualised support offered by Eden Training, to overcome these difficulties and achieve so much. Damion commented: "Eden Training has been excellent for me. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The main thing is I feel a lot more confident and I think being part of a small group in College works for me. There have been times, particularly at the start, when I needed encouragement and I always get it even if I don't always get things right first time." |
